Hubbard Street came to us with a unique set of challenges. Their deteriorating performance studio in the West Loop Gate neighborhood needed restoration, and they needed a stronger local identity.
Our renovation of the dance company’s façade was a dynamic brand composition, a reflection of this organization's vibrancy, the energy that the company presents on stage, and their vitality within the Chicago cultural community.
Existing building elements were repaired or replaced to restore the envelope’s integrity. On the two street-facing elevations, we utilized aluminum panels and a perforated folded modular system that helps to unite the previously disjointed façades.
Suspended off the building both as a canopy marking the entrance and as a marquee identifying the building at a larger urban scale, the folded screens interact with sunlight, engaging the viewer in a direct relationship with the building.
The project was instrumental in setting off a tone of growth and revitalization for the emerging neighborhood.
