Herman Miller Main Site - Building C1

We considered the renovation of Building C1 a multi-faceted opportunity to increase usable space within the existing shell and to upgrade a mid-century building with sustainability in mind. Our objective was to honor and strengthen the A. Quincy Jones building — a quiet essay in steel and brick of Herman Miller's design values.

Years of interior finishes were stripped away to reveal the original steel structure's beauty, and new finishes were selected for their high recycled content. Completely new electrical and mechanical systems, along with high-efficiency lighting, reduced energy consumption by 30%.

The project was selected by the National AIA Committee on the Environment and the US Department of Energy as a Top Ten Green Project.
