Cloud Apartment No. 1
Chicago, IL
This apartment extends the building's architectural-ordering principles to the interior in a landmarked Mies van der Rohe tower.
The residence was formed by joining two single bedroom units. Exposing structural and mechanical conditions created the genesis of space-modulation in the design. The ceiling became the element in the space that tied everything together through the manipulation of varying-height planes.
A glass terrazzo floor, white walls, and lacquered millwork combined to form an ethereal, cloud-like space.
