U.S. Embassy Port Moresby Achieves LEED Gold Certification
U.S. Department of State Bureau Awarded LEED Gold Certification for U.S. Embassy Port Moresby
A hallmark of sustainable design and international collaboration in Papua New Guinea
The U.S. Embassy in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, has received LEED Gold certification, recognizing the project's commitment to sustainability, energy efficiency, and environmental stewardship. As Design Architect, Krueck Sexton Partners transformed the partially built chancery structure into a state-of-the-art embassy campus, integrating additional facilities such as a chancery annex, marine residence, and redeveloped landscape areas.
The campus expresses a thoughtful balance between functionality, local context, and sustainability. A combination of energy-and-water-saving features were achieved through strategic site orientation and façade design, incorporating indigenous design principles like external sunshades to minimize solar heat gain. Photovoltaic arrays fortify the campus's resiliency, while native plantings and shaded trellis walkways restore the site's natural character and promote outdoor comfort.
