Associated Builders and Contractors Excellence in Construction Awards
International Square Food Hall is recognized for its innovative design that merges sustainability with community-focused urban space. Congratulations to DAVIS Construction for their contracting services and recognition for construction excellence.
International Square Food Hall, located in Washington, D.C., recently received recognition in the Associated Builders and Contractors Excellence in Construction Awards. Anchored by a D.C. Metro stop, the food hall extends the street’s energy into the building with a design that incorporates large, glazed overhead doors, allowing seamless cross-views to the 12-story atrium—a cultural hub lined with food vendors and event space.
The project was awarded for its integration of natural ventilation, which takes advantage of Washington D.C.'s temperate climate, significantly reducing energy consumption while enhancing occupant comfort. The ground floor and atrium’s design minimize mechanical cooling needs for half the year, contributing to a 30% reduction in energy demand, demonstrating the project's commitment to sustainability and creating a dynamic connection between people and the outdoors.
