"What Integrating Security into the Built Environment Really Means"
Security in the built environment is an important topic for architects to address. Threats to our safety come in many forms, and having a deeper level of integration is important to safeguard people in our schools, campuses, hotels, workplaces as well as government buildings nationally and globally.
Our principal Tom Jacobs, AIA, LEED AP, has worked all over the globe designing, studying, and researching some of the world’s most hardened buildings, including embassies, consulates, and high-level government buildings.
In this 15-minute talk at BD+C’s Accelerate Live! conference (May 10, 2018, Chicago), Tom discusses how designers can safeguard at-risk buildings without turning them into fortresses or jails. He also explores ways that provide the needed protection while keeping intact the representational and inspirational qualities of design.
