Groundbreaking of United Airlines Thumbnail

United Airlines started construction earlier this month on a $573 million, 550,000 square foot terminal modernization project at its LAX terminals 7 and 8. The May 13 Groundbreaking ceremony was attended by LA mayor Eric Garcetti, United executives, and local dignitaries. The project is slated for completion in December 2017.

The new facilities feature a single, light-filled security checkpoint that will enable travelers to move quickly and efficiently from curb to gate. Passengers visiting the new 20,000 square foot United Club located above the concourse level can enjoy the unique Southern California climate and views by experiencing the expansive exterior terrace.

“The design focuses on intuitive way-finding and is inspired by modern spaces typical of Southern California that maximize use of daylight and utilizes familiar, sustainable and durable materials in innovative ways” said Tom Jacobs, Design Principal, Krueck + Sexton Architects. Krueck + Sexton Architects is acting as Design Architect in collaboration with Architect of Record HNTB.
