A new Marine Security Guard residence on the existing compound was a challenging site with complex space and security requirements. The Marines needed living quarters and support areas for dining, recreation, and relaxed interaction. The staff — many who live nearby, wanted to maintain their community space, including the tennis courts.
We were able to find parking and roadway inefficiencies. After several study options, we determined that the perimeter walls could be pushed out to create greater impact and accommodate a new building, parking, tennis, and green area.
The new plan allowed us to relocate their tennis court and add recreation terraces for basketball and volleyball. A patio and outdoor exercise yard for the Marines is an integral part of the building — an outdoor space within site walls with a canopy for sun and rain coverage. The surrounding exterior space was improved with an open lawn for gatherings — getting more out of the full design.
