A native of Seoul, South Korea, Sumin came to Chicago to attend Illinois Institute of Technology, exploring her interests in 20th-century modern architecture. While at IIT, Sumin was awarded the Horwitz Memorial Scholarship, the Black Memorial Scholarship, and her team finished in the Top 10 of the Farnsworth Redux Competition.
Her grandfather's studio was where she first imaged being an architect — and from whom she learned how to use a hammer, handsaw, and a planer.
Sumin emphasizes the balance between structures, materials, and the physical environment, always studying how these components interconnect. Her goal in life is never to stop learning.
Outside of work, she enjoys shopping and cosmetics and making scrap collages with a variety of media.
